![]() The crucibles
Any container with different shape and dimension employed to mealt valuable metals is called a refractory crucible. Refractory because it must be resistant to fire, high temperature and, above all, sheer temperature variations (thermal shock). The crucible must be absolutely pure, because the molten metal blends with its omponents and must not be altered. Equipped with their own research and testing laboratory, they have constantly upgraded and automated the production processes: mixing, pressing, casting, drying and firing. The graphite crucible is the result of the accurate processing of artificial graphite, using numerical control lates, milling machines and machining centers. This material consists of 99.9% of carbon, an excellent electric conductor available in bars and blocks. Graphite is an essential material for the operation of electronic induction melting machines. At high temperatures and in contact with air, graphite tends to break up. For each casting, it is recommended to apply a uniform layer of boric acid, which forms a protection film on the walls. Important features of graphite are its purity, density, compactness and grain size. F.lli Fossati guarantee a high-quality protected product, as a consequence of decade-long relationships with world-class producers of artificial graphite.
